President & CEO: Ron Bunch, CEcD

Ron Bunch, CEcD is President and CEO of the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, a 78 year-old combined Five-Star Accredited Chamber of Commerce and Regional Economic Development Agency.

In serving over 1,100 partner-businesses across South Central Kentucky, Bunch leads business development, advocacy, expansion and attraction initiatives for the Bowling Green Area Economic Development Authority (BGAEDA) and the Intermodal Transportation Authority (ITA), throughout a 10-county region. With over 18 years of professional economic development experience, Bunch is a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) and has led successful local and regional economic development efforts in four states.

Since joining the Chamber in January 2011, Bunch has been appointed to four statewide organizations’ Board of Directors: the Kentucky Association for Economic Development, the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the Japan-America Society of Kentucky, and the Indo-Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Western Kentucky University Research Foundation and a member of the Business Executive Advisory Council for the WKU Gordon Ford College of Business.

During 2011-2012, Bowling Green and Warren County have been recognized with national accolades in multiple publications, including SmartMoney, Forbes, and Site Selection. Under Bunch’s leadership, Warren County was one of the first counties to be named a Work Ready Community by the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board (KWIB) in 2012. Also, the KWIB awarded the South Central Kentucky Regional Development Authority (RDA) a $65,000 grant to implement the Advanced Manufacturing Industry Partnership of Warren County.

Since January 2011, the Chamber has been an integral partner and supporter of 30 expansion and attraction projects with more than $363 million in announced capital investment and 2,077 planned new jobs. Bunch’s leadership played a significant role in two of the three South Central Kentucky projects that contributed to Kentucky’s 2012 Silver Shovel Award by Area Development magazine: the expansion of the General Motors Bowling Green Assembly Plant (250 jobs and $131.1 million investment) and the location of Sequa Automotive Group (280 jobs and $7.2 million investment).

Prior to Bowling Green, Bunch was executive director of the Business Development Board of Martin County (BDBMC) in Florida, during which time Florida Governor Charlie Crist appointed Bunch to serve on the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council Board to represent Enterprise Florida, the state’s official economic development agency. Before assuming his responsibilities in Florida, Bunch was the economic development director for the City of Danville, VA. While he served in this position, the City announced more than 6,100 direct new jobs and a capital investment of more than $569 million.

A 1990 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Bunch holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economics with a focus in general engineering, and is the proud father of Haley and Catherine.
